Copayment Updates
Copayments for medical services are required effective May 11, 2023. Medicaid waived copayments for medical services pursuant to the COVID-19 Public Health Emergency (PHE).The PHE ended May 11, 2023.
Gender affirmation surgery updates
As of September 1, 2022, gender affirmation surgery for Medicaid members ages 21 and older diagnosed with gender dysphoria is a covered service when certain criteria are met and the member has received prior authorization (an OK) from UniCare.
West Virginia Children’s Health Insurance Plan (WVCHIP): Tobacco cessation benefits
Tobacco cessation services for WVCHIP include care from multiple healthcare providers. There’s no cost to members, and they can get two 12-week cycles of FDA-approved drugs with no prior authorization. Members will need to talk to their healthcare provider to get more, if needed. Children and pregnant women are also covered.
New vision vendor – Superior Vision to provide vision services for UniCare Health Plan of West Virginia, Inc. members
Beginning May 1, 2022, vision services will be provided by Superior Vision for all UniCare members. This vendor change will not affect your current vision benefits. For more information on vision services, please review the Benefits tab on our website, unicare.com/wv, or contact the Customer Care Center at 800-782-0095 (TTY 711) Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Eastern time.
