Renew your West Virginia Medicaid benefits
We don’t want you or your family to be without health care coverage. Keep your UniCare benefits by renewing on time.
1. Check your mail
You'll get a reminder letter from the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) to renew your coverage. The letter will come around the month you first became eligible.
2. Renew your benefits
When you get your letter, renew your coverage. There are three ways to renew.
- Online — The easiest, fastest way to renew! Log in to your Optum WVPATH site with your Optum GovID account at wvpath.org. If you don’t have an Optum GovID account yet, register here.
- In person: The letter will have a date and time for you to renew your coverage at your local Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) office or with your caseworker. If the date and time don't work for you, call DHHR right away to reschedule. If you don't get a letter, call or visit your local DHHR office.
Find your local DHHR office
- By phone: Call DHHR at 877-716-1212 (TTY 711) Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Eastern time.
Don’t forget to update your information
Have you moved? Changed your phone number? Be sure to report any changes through your Optum GovID account or contact DHHR at 877-716-1212 (TTY 711).
What if you lose your coverage?
You can still reapply for Medicaid or WVCHIP. If you apply within 60 days of the date you lost coverage and you’re still eligible, you’ll return to UniCare.
